Eye Exams

Comprehensive Eye Exam:  At First Eye Care, we strive to provide our patients with the most thorough, technologically advanced eye exam possible.  We utilize high-tech instrumentation to ensure that your eyes are healthy and feeling great.

The Eye Health portion of the exam consists of:

Retinal Photography:  This is done on all of our patients and it is the best way for our doctors to ensure retinal health from year to year.   We also enjoy seeing our patients see parts of their eyes that they may never have seen before!

Screening Visual Fields: This test maps out the central and peripheral vision to look for areas of missing or less sensitive vision.  This is provided for most patients.

Eye Stability and Mobility:  This is done on all patients and ensures that both eyes comfortably work well together.

The Refraction portion of the exam consists of:

Autorefraction/Autokeratometry:  This test gives the doctor a baseline corneal shape and basic visual function.

Aberrometry:  Simply put, the most precise instrument available to detect visual imperfections.  This unique technique measures the eye beyond the typical “better 1 or 2,” and helps simplify the refraction completed by the doctor.  It also allows the doctor to prescribe HD IZON lenses which reduce glare at night and increase color contrast.

Refraction: Many patients find making the decision between “number 1 and 2” very challenging.  This process is made as easy as possible by test results previously mentioned and by the doctor’s expertise.

Contact Lens Examination:  This is a separate series of tests that are administered by both clinical staff and doctors to provide our patients with the best contact lens for their eyes, whether it is a daily soft lens or a highly specialized rigid, multifocal, or toric lens.

Corneal Topography:  This type of imaging provides the doctors with a 3-dimensional map of the corneas.  This is essential in fitting a lens to the individual shape of an eye.

Sodium Fluorescein Dye:  This is administrated in the exam room to observe microscopic imperfections in the corneal surface.

Dr. Hughes will ensure that the exam is personalized as well, addressing each concern that one may have, wile making sure that all questions are answered in a manner that is easy to understand.
